Calling all PC Gurus
I am looking for an individual out there who really knows their shit when it comes to computers / windows. I have had many PMs with questions regarding all kinds of things regarding this and although I pride myself on being a wealth of info, but there are somethings even I leave to the experts.
If you are, and I mean REALLY ARE a PC Guru, We want you as a KS "know it all". If this idea works, I will try to have a section of the forum just for you to assist peeps with answers they can use.
It is OK if you are not a KS to work with us or anyone else. I think it would be useful to all of BC to have somewhere to turn for an answer.
And yes, More than one can share this function as long as you really know the right answers.
You may reply to me either by post or PM, your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

let me know what you think of windows 7 as i might be moving there from xp pro upon my new build. most experts in the industry say its awesome but i want to wait a bit and see where the problems are on 7. also how is the backwards compatibility regarding software, hardware and hardware drivers?

I got Win 7 Professional a couple of weeks ago. I have had no problems to get any drivers for my hardware. Everything is working fine and I really like the improvements which Microsoft added to his current OS flagship. If you have Vista, then you should definitely try to get WIN 7. It´s faster and much easier to handle, in my opinion.
If you have a working Win XP and everything is fine, I wouldn´t change it until MS stops the online support (updates, etc.) or until you want to play DX10+ games

I would even go so far and say... changing from Win XP to Win 7 is like changing from Win 98 to Win XP...MONITOR wrote:actually Uri i want 7 because of dx 10 as xp don't support it. but yeah i don't want to fix what is not broken and xp has been good to me.
and btw... try to get the 64 bit version of Win 7. With a 32 bit OS, you have a limit of max. 4 GB RAM... Future games will definitely need more!

Not sure about vista or win 7 . Start game , select configure then select graphics , there on the upper left
under screen resolutin there is a toggle switch for full screen , or window screen. Im using xp though.
It might also depend on your graphics card. One thing I do know is that if you have built in graphics card
you may just need to boost its memory though the bios on your system if you can.
It would help to know your specs Yar , maybe I can help if nothing else works

Re: Calling all PC Gurus
Anyone know the difference between Invidia cards? Some have # like 6800, 8400, 7300 and some have 210, 250, How the hell do you tell which is better?
KS<ARGO>SWA- Forum monkey
Re: Calling all PC Gurus
the latest ones are in the 290's, they are also the most expensive.
A good video card for a good price would be the 9000s

Re: Calling all PC Gurus
What I am looking for is great detail on how the numbering system works regarding video cards especially NVIDIA and answeres as to which is better. It seems that a cards number has no real bearing on how good it is meaning it is possible for a 6800 to be a better card than a 7000.
If anyone can clarify this in detail or get me some truth regarding, I would appreciate it.

Re: Calling all PC Gurus
if you really want to learn about nvidia cards go to the nvidia website as it has all the cards and their perspective clock speeds, ram etc.
typically the lower the number of the nvidia card the older it is and the lesser the clock speed and amount of ram involved. in retrospect the 200 series is the latest line and is basically a remake of the 9000 series with a few tweaks involved such as direct 10 support. i bought a 250 and its a huge card with heat sink and huge fan so make sure your motherboard has room for any 200 series card. technologically speaking nvidia really hasn't changed anything from the 8000 series up and just threw out the same cards with fancy new boxes.
ati right now i killing nvidia in performance and price but one major fallback with ati is limited driver support and most game vendors prefer nvidia based engines.
again go to the nvidia website and also google the cards you choose for reviews.
